Switching from Medicare Advantage to Medicare Supplement
In the Medigap Monday video, Robert Bache answers your question, “When can I change from a Medicare Advantage to Medicare Supplement?” Watch the video and discover the two times per year you can switch from Medicare Advantage to Medicare Supplement.
Two Medigap Enrollment Periods
You can change from Medicare Advantage to Medigap Plan during the Medicare Open Enrollment (Annual Election Period) between October 15 and December 7. Furthermore, you can switch from Medicare Advantage Plan to a Medicare Supplement Plan during Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment January 1 to March 31 every year.
During Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment, you have two options: Track 1 – switch from one Advantage Plan to a different Advantage Plan, or Track 2 – drop Medicare Advantage and return to Original Medicare. If you choose Track 2, you can add a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan. Furthermore, Track 2 allows you to change from Medicare Advantage to a Medicare Supplement plan.
Medicare Advantage Disenrollment Period
During the annual period between January 1 and March 31, you can switch to a different Medicare Advantage Plan (enroll) or disenroll from Medicare Advantage. Thus, Robert Bach calls the period Medicare Advantage Disenrollment in his 2020 video. Please read the story about George and why he switched back to Original Medicare and added Medicare Part D prescription drug plan.
