Changing Your Medicare Supplement Plan
“When can I change my Medicare Supplement Plan?” the answer is anytime you want. Watch this Medigap Monday video for Robert Bache’s answer to the question: when can you shop your Medigap Plan?
When can I enroll in Medicare Supplement?
If you have Original Medicare Part A and Part B, you can purchase a Medicare Supplement Plan. You can enroll in a Medicare Medigap Plan during Medicare Open Enrollment, also called Annual Open Enrollment.
Annual Enrollment Period
Medicare Annual Enrollment period is the same every year. The next annual enrollment period is October 15, 2021, to December 7, 2021. During this period, you can change from any Medicare Plan to a different plan. For example, you can change from Medicare Advantage to Original Medicare, Part A and Part B to become eligible for a Medicare Supplement. You can also change your Medicare Part D Plans.
Best Time to Enroll in Medigap Plan
The best time to enroll in a Medicare Supplement Plan is during your initial Open Enrollment Period. This period includes three months before you turn 65, the month you turn 65, and 3 months after you turn 65. The reason this is the best time to enroll in Medigap Plan is you have guarantee issue rights. In other words, the Medicare supplement company can not medically disqualify you because there is no medical underwriting during your initial enrollment period.
When you enroll outside of your initial Open Enrollment Period, a Medicare supplement company could decline your application based on your medical conditions and underwriting guidelines. Discover answers to the following Medicare Supplement Insurance Underwriting questions:
