Medicare Supplement Plans Comparison Chart

The Medicare Supplement Plans Comparison Chart is updated annually by Medicare.gov. Our Medigap Benefits Chart below uses data from Medicare.gov and is updated for 2020.

Federal and State laws makes Medicare Supplement Plan comparison easy for you. Medicare law says companies must clearly identify Medigap Plans by letter. For example, Medicare Supplement Plan G. If you were eligible for Medicare before 2020, you can buy any of these ten Medicare Plans: A, B, C, D, F, G, K, L, M, and N.

However, if you are newly eligible for Medicare starting January 1, 2020, then you can only buy one of these eight Medicare Plans: A, B, D, G, K, L, M and N. As a result of MACRA law, anyone newly eligible for Medicare in 2020 can not get Plan C or Plan F. However, you can still get great coverage with Plan G.

Medigap Comparison Chart

You can use the Medigap Benefits chart below for a side-by-side comparison of Medicare Supplement Plans A – N. Plans with 100% have full coverage for that benefit. However, some plans only have partial benefit coverage such as 80%, 75%, and 50%. Plans with X have no benefit coverage. If you are newly eligible for Medcare starting on or after January 1, 2020, then Plan C and Plan F will not be available for you. However, anyone previous eligible for Medicare before 2020 can buy any Medigap Plan A – N.

You must pay the annual deductible for your Medigap Plan before you get any benefits. The deductible amount you pay varies by plan. In other words, some Medigap Plans have higher deductibles (Plan F) and others have lower deductibles (Plan G). The Medigap Chart below compares Medicare Supplement benefits which cover expenses not covered by Original Medicare.

Medicare Plan F

Medigap Plan F is a high-deductible supplement plan offered by some Medicare companies in some states. If you choose Plan F, you must pay a deductible amount of $2340 in 2020 before Plan F pays anything. Some Medicare beneficiaries may feel this deductible is too high. If you want a plan with comparable coverage and only $198 deductible in 2020, then consider buying Plan G. Furthermore, Medicare beneficiaries newly eligible in 2020 can not buy Plan F. Thus, Plan G with a deductible $2,142 less than Plan F is a much better value for most people.
