FAQ Friday: Foreign Travel Benefit

If you leave the country, Medicare may not provide you foreign travel coverage. However, the Medicare Supplement Plan G will cover emergency care outside the United States.

The Medicare Supplement Plan G comes with what is called a foreign travel benefit. It covers foreign travel emergency care during the first 60 days of your trip, if Medicare doesn’t otherwise cover the care. Plan G pays 80% of your medically necessary emergency care outside the US.

However, you first must pay a $250 deductible for the year. This foreign travel benefit also has a lifetime limit of $50,000.
